The 'male gaze' is a theory that all of the media is viewed through the eyes of a heterosexual male. It is shown as how a heterosexual male would want to see media. Such as magazine covers. When a female is the front cover of a magazine it is always largely sexualized. Such as these covers:
Where as when a male is the front cover of a magazine it is vastly different:
This is also present in film, such as when a female actor is introduced the camera is often shown through a male protagonists eyes(FOV), the camera often starts at the feet of the woman and woks its up to her face. She is often shown wearing sexualized clothing.
