The costume for the scene was shown, this included the main character wearing clothes for bed, these are necessary due to the character just waking up in the scene.
Some shots taken for use in the film were un useable, this is due to the equipments used, there for needed to be re shot, this then interfered with the already existing shooting schedule, there for it had to be replaced or we would risk being behind schedule.
Some scenes required special equipment to be used as props for the film, for example for sense seven of the film. Amps, guitars, a drum kit and microphones were needed to recreate the scene of actual band performances.
This also affected the shooting schedule due to a location needing to be found and booked. It also put other members of the shooting process behind. Teamwork is a vital part of shooting a project such as this, if one member of the team makes a mistake the whole team pays for the mismate.
I used a variety of shots for the film, such as a close up, this shot type is used to show the characters on screen emotion.
For one of my final shots I used a tracking shot, this shot is when a character physically move the camera with their movements, creative blocking can also be used in scenes such as this. It is done to build anticipation for the next scene.
For the opening of my film I decided to use a medium shot of the main characters back, I used this shot due to its ability to capture and portray the characters movements and gestures, body language is vital in conveying emotion to the audience, the medium shot allows the camera to remain close enough to capture this. As well as this the costume in this scene is supposed to represent bed wear for the character. Helping to immersed the audience.
As well as this, I used premier Pros editing software to add a title screen to my clip.
To do this I selected file, new and then legacy title, another screen then appeared which allowed to to edit my texts colour, size, font and other properties.
The text appears as one of the clips being used in the edit, you can name the title to help distinguish it from actual clips.
As well as other shots mentioned, I used a wide shot during the first act of my film, this was done to introduce the character as well as the environment.
As well as this, I close ups throughout the film. This shot type is useful due to its ability to be able to show massive amounts of detail to the audience with little or no spoken exposition needed.
Some of these close ups are used to show emotion, some are used to show detail.
In this scene, the actors show a variety of emotion, they show anger, and they begin to laugh at Toms proposal. This is dome to show a variety of acting methods, this helps to show the past pain of what the character did before the film took place, this is vital to create a world in which the audience can believe existed.
As well as this, one character in this scene only appears in this act of the film, this was due to scheduling issues. This meant that the character had to be cut from the film, and had to be replaced last minute in the pre production process. This caused problems between actors and caused problems on set, this could have also caused a delay in filming.
As well as shots already mentioned I used a long take in act 2 of my film, it lasts for over two minutes. As well as this I used blocking in this scene to help progress the narrative. I used this take to show the environment and to make the scene look more impressive due to the camera not cutting away for over two minutes.
As well as this I used an over an over the shoulder shot, I used this shot as it helps move the plot forward. It also helps character development and the setting.
Editing
For the editing process for some scenes I had to edit the size of the clip in the editing soft ware. For this I had to select effects controls and edit the size of the clip until it fit the screen size it was intended for.
As well as this I used a youtube converter to achieve sound effects being added to my film, these were taken from secondary sources on Youtube.
As well as this, I used the unlink command to remove audio from certain clips.
As well as a short film I created a trailer, this lasted over a minute. It shows a viewing warning to show that this trailer is suitable for all ages. My film also showcases this.
Trailer
It also features cuts to black after every clip, this helps to pace the trailer as well as to build anticipation for the next clip. The clips are short and fast paced, this was done to avoid spoilers for the film as well as to help raise the already build anticipation for the next clip and for the film itself. For the trailer I used the most exiting and action paced scenes from the film.
It featured a backing 'running scared', which references the main characters vices and how he tries to escape them, for example the line 'each place we go, so afraid, that he might show'. It shows Tom's on going battle with drugs and alcohol, and not wanting to show that side of himself to his band once again. It also features music to help keep the audience entertained and would attract fans of the song, helping to raise viewers of the trailer and possibly the film.
It also featured title cards, which help to drive the narrative and help the audience understand what is happening on screen.
It also features quick cuts to help build anticipation for the film, the cuts are also in time with the beats of the backing track which makes the trailer more enjoyable. This would help raise awareness for the trailer and possibly the film.
Non Continuity Edit
This second edit to the film had the ending of the film, at the beginning. This was done much like Tarentenos cut of Pulp Fiction.
I did this because it disrupts the audiences concept of time and space, as well as this it draws attention to the process of cutting and helps to disrupt the viewers concept of reality. It helps to drive/ distrust the narrative. It also gives the film a flare of ingenuity and makes the film less common to other products.
Experimentation
To show experimentation with camera settings I changed the Isco setting on my camera of choice a DSLR. These settings were responsible for how much light was in the scene, the lower the setting the more light that was allowed to enter the lens.
As well as this, I changed the shutter speed on the camera. This controls how long the shutter is open while taking a photo or video, and how much light enters the cameras lens. It can be controlled by the dial on top of the camera.
As well as the previous shots mentioned, I also mirrored a shot from early in the film in the last act. I did this to show the characters journey through the film. The shot in question was a medium shot of Toms back.
In this scene, the costume holds significance to the story and narrative. This is due to Luke wearing a lab coat, this wad done to recreate a costume for a doctor.
As well as this, there are a multitude of sounds played throughout the project, some to portray transitions, some portray the passage of time and some portray confusion and tension. However these are all placed in the film to enhance viewers immersion in the film. Therefor boosting views.
